A fitted compression garment will be worn for about 3 to 4 weeks. Activity may be resumed in about 3 weeks and the final results will be apparent in about 3 months.

When performing breast augmentation surgery by itself, it takes great skill to place an implant correctly and achieve wonderful results. Similarly, it takes great skill to appropriately carry out a breast lift procedure by itself and re-establish a youthful looking breast. However, both of these operations have certain, relatively low levels of unpredictability when they are carried out by themselves. Unpredictability in plastic surgery originates from multiple factors, such as, individual wound healing factors, age, hormones and techniques used. When breast lifts are combined with implant placement the variables that contribute to unpredictability are multiplied several fold. Increased unpredictability sometimes makes it more difficult to achieve good results.

Typically the incisions follow the natural lines of your eyelids; in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes in the lower lids. The eyelid surgery incisions may extend into the crow’s feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through these incisions, the surgeon separates the skin from underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removes excess fat, and often trims sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are then closed with very fine sutures.

Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek words for “women-like breasts.” Though this oddly named condition is rarely talked about, it’s actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both.

Cheek implants are inserted through small incisions on the inside of the upper lip, which heal in approximately one week. A relatively minor procedure, cheek implants may be placed using only local anesthesia or with deeper sedation for patient comfort. Rhinoplasty is performed by making small incisions on the inside of the nose. There are no external incisions. The skin is lifted off of the cartilage and bone and the nose is then sculpted to the appropriate shape. The skin is then placed back in position and dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions inside the nose.

There are many reasons for undergoing a breast lift. Reasons include, having breasts that lack substance or firmness; having breasts that are pendulous, but of satisfactory size; having nipples and areolas that point downwards, especially if they are positioned below the breast crease; or having loss of elasticity, weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding affect the shape and firmness of the breasts.

When looking to perform a rhinoplasty, realistic expectations from the patient’s perspective are very important. The goal of rhinoplasty is to reshape and sculpt a new nose that fits harmoniously with the face and fits into the facial balance for each individual patient. Every nose job is different. There is no one perfect nose.

Oftentimes patients complain that they appear more tired than they feel. Sometimes fat is repositioned from the lower eyelid into the deep tear troughs or the deep depressions that exist at the bottom of the lower eyelids. The incisions are easily hidden below the eyelashes of the lower eyelids and sometimes performed with no incision on the lower eyelid whatsoever, called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The upper eyelid incision is hidden very well back within the deep crease that is seen when the eye is shut, but retracts back when the eyelid is open. Many times eyelid surgery is performed at the same time as a face lift or a brow lift.

Often prospective facelift patients complain they look much more tired than they feel and are looking for a natural youthful appearance. Most patients do not want to look overdone or pulled. The key to looking natural after surgery is to tighten the underlying muscles of the face without much tension on the skin. The best facelifts do not distort the hairline behind the ears or sideburn in front of the ear. The earlobes should also be left in place without being pulled forward. The surgical incisions should be difficult to detect.

Some women wish to enhance their body contour because they feel that their breasts are too small. Other women seek to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy and nursing, or to balance a difference in breast size. Injectable fillers may be used alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as a laser treatment, or a recontouring procedure, such as a facelift.

Breast augmentation may also be indicated for women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other. Breast augmentation is intended to give the patient larger and more shapely breasts. A more positive self image may also be a result of breast enlargement. Breast enlargement is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. A small incision is made under the breast and a saline breast implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle. The patient goes home in an elastic bra. The bra helps hold the breasts in the correct position. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

Chemical peels use a solution to improve and smooth the texture of facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Skin type and color, ethnic background, and age are important factors to be discussed prior to surgery. Some cosmetic surgeons work together with industry skin experts who bring over 25 years of experience to your treatment. Recovery time, depending on the nature of the chemical is from one to four weeks.

After arm lift surgery or upper arm liposuction you will be required to wear a compressive garment which is much like a very tight shirt. The length of time for which the garment is worn varies with surgeon preference and extent of surgery, and averages 2 to 4 weeks. You may return to work within 2 to 3 days, again depending on the extent of your surgery.

Traditional Blepharoplasty: An incision is made in the crease of the upper lid toward the temples. Once healed, it is not noticeable when the eye is open. On the lower lid, the incision is made along the lash line toward the temples, and is hidden by lashes when healed.
The Transconjunctival Approach: This is a newer technique for blepharoplasty, involving an incision inside the lower lid. Fat can be removed through this incision, but excess skin cannot be eliminated.

Sclerotherapy can be done in other parts of the body including the face. The area in the face will be red and puffy, but the resolution tends to be very much faster. Generally, women that have a genetic pre-disposition toward small breasts tell us that they desire to better fill out their clothes or bathing suits. Women that have lost breast volume after weight loss or breast-feeding typically tell us that they want to regain their breast fullness and/or cleavage. In all these cases, breast augmentation is usually the optimal way to increase your breast size, which can improve the way you look and feel about yourself.

There are a variety of surgical approaches for breast augmentation, which include inconspicuous incisions in the armpit, underneath the breast (just above the crease), around the areola or in the belly button. Most plastic surgeons can perform all of these approaches, but prefers the transaxillary approach. Referred to as a TransAxillary SubPectoral Augmentation (TASPA), this technique involves making a small incision in the armpit to place a breast implant beneath the chest wall muscle. Many plastic surgeons feel that a TASPA generally yields the most natural-looking result with minimal scarring.

Chin augmentation is a way to bring balance to the facial structure of correcting a weak chin due to the related bone resorption or facial trauma. This procedure can be as simple as tissue augmentation filler to implanting a silicone or porex chin implant to have to cover all the ways you are able to enhance your chin. A weak chin can also make a normal nose appear large and an already pronounced larger. It may also give the appearance of a fleshy neck. Recovery from implant based reconstruction is faster than with lap-based reconstruction, but both take at least three to six weeks to recover and both require follow up surgeries in order to construct a new areola and nipple. TRAM flap patients can show abdominal muscle weakness but most patients resume normal activities after recovery.

A minimal scar breast lift procedure encompasses several newer techniques aimed at reducing scars. A “donut” or circumareolar mastopexy results in a scar only around the areola (the pigmented area around the nipple). The circumareolar-vertical mastopexy or “lollipop” type of incision results in a scar extending around the areola and vertically down to the crease under the breast.

Because of the special nature of the blood supply to the nose and surrounding area, it is possible for retrograde infections from the nasal area to spread to the brain during cosmetic nasal surgery. To reduce the risks follow the doctor’s advice both before and after the surgery.

Additional considerations must also be understood in deciding which particular breast lift technique will be used. The circumareolar or “donut” mastopexy is reserved for minimal type lifts and will tend to decrease projection making the breast somewhat rounder and flatter across the front. This may be especially desirable to breast lift patients with overly pointed or projected breasts to start with. The addition of the vertical incision, while mandatory in some cases, will tend to add some projection to the breast. Hence, the initial shape, projection, and amount of sagging of the breast must all be taken into consideration as well as the wishes and expectation of the patient before making a final decision as to which technique is to be used.

Although all plastic surgeons recommend that you be at your ideal weight, overweight patients who are unable to reach their goals can greatly benefit as well. Many have been inspired to continue to lose weight after treatment. With liposculpture, saddlebags can disappear, hips and legs become thinner, stomachs flatten and double chins can literally melt away.

The tummy tuck procedure tightens the muscles to provide a sleeker, stronger abdominal wall and to make the waist smaller. Loose, lax skin often compromised by stretch marks, is removed. You will be up in a day or two after surgery, but activity may be restricted for three or four weeks while tissues firm and heal. Most plastic surgeons‘ patients return to work within a couple of weeks.

Drooping of the eyebrows is a consequence of gravity. As the soft tissues of the forehead lose their strength with age, the natural effects of gravity cause the brows to migrate downward, below the edge of the forehead bone, to encroach on the upper eyelids. Because of the current restrictions established for silicone implants by the Federal Drug Administration, we are using silicone implants only for women who are participating in controlled studies.

Liposuction is a very common, popular procedure, designed for the permanent removal of subcutaneous fatty tissue from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include the hips, thighs (for the removal of “cellulite”), abdomen, knees, ankles, arms, face, and neck.

Besides protruding ears, there are a variety of other ear problems that can be helped with surgery. These include: “lop ear,” when the tip seems to fold down and forward; “cupped ear,” which is usually a very small ear; and “shell ear,” when the curve in the outer rim, as well as the natural folds and creases, are missing. The most commonly suctioned areas are the neck (underneath the chin), tummy, waist, love handles, hips, saddle bags, inner thighs, knees, and, infrequently, the ankles. During the procedure you are completely awake, allowing you to lie down and stand up. Everyone is aware that their body appears differently when they are standing vs. lying, and by having you stand your surgeon can more accurately sculpt your body’s proportions. Pre-operative valium will help minimize any anxiety and discomfort you may feel. A special tumescent solution will be injected. This will numb the area as well as put fluid around the fat cells so they are more easily removed.

Some of the implant materials are made of a solid silicone. Currently, there is no scientific evidence that this is a harmful substance. Your plastic surgeon will be happy to discuss any current scientific findings concerning the type of implant you’re considering.

You will likely experience a temporary slight reddening of the skin or localized swelling during laser hair removal. You may feel like you have a bit of sunburn after surgery. Using an over-the-counter topical steroid cream is all you should need to remain comfortable. Remember to protect the skin with a SPF 30 sun-block. You may wear moisturizer and makeup formulated for sensitive skin, as desired. You may immediately return to your regular activities. You may notice hair shedding from follicles for a few days to a week after treatment, this is normal.

Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer. During surgery the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. The nature of the sculpting will depend on your problem and your surgeon’s preferred technique. Finally, the skin is redraped over the new framework.

The patients is usually up and around within a few hours of surgery. If you prefer you may stay overnight in the hospital until all the effects of general anesthesia wear off. To promote best molding and healing, the patient’s head is wrapped in a bulky bondage. The pain in the ear can be relived by medication. Within a few days the bulky bandage will be replaced by a lighter dressing similar to a headband. The dressing should be worn day and night stitches will be removed or will dissolve in about a week. For about a month, avoid any activity which will make your ear bend. Adults can go back o work five days. Children can go back to school after a week. Most patients are satisfied with the results of ear surgery.

Buttock augmentation stretches the tissues and can be painful, especially if the implants are placed under the muscle. Your plastic surgeon will prescribe an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory medication. You will wear a compression garment for support, for a few days after surgery.

The goal of a facelift is to reshape and sculpt a new jaw and neck line and lift the jowls for a very natural look. The goal for a mini-lift is to simply remove the jowls by lifting them. The goal for a neck lift is to sculpt only the neck fat without removal of any skin or jowls. The neck lift is not performed if there are jowls present that need to be addressed. The S-Lift is a mini-lift.
