A lot of women that receive breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants will do so without even really thinking about what they have just had put inside of them. Which may bring them to the question, “What exactly is a silicone gel-filled implant?” Dr. Lyle Weeks, an El Paso plastic surgeon, answers this with, “A silicone gel-filled breast implant is an implant shell made of silicone elastomer (rubber) filled with silicone gel as opposed to being filled with saline. Saline implants also have a silicone elastomer shell.” Some women will find this out before their surgery, and that is the best way to go about it.

“Obesity becomes “morbid” when it reaches the point of significantly increasing the risk of one or more obesity-related health conditions or serious diseases (also known as co-morbidities) that can result either in significant physical disability or even death.” After reading this on the website of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon I realized that gastric band procedures may be the difference between life and death for some people.

I’m starting to look my age finally, and now I am missing my youthful look I had just a few months back. I looked into some information on rejuvenating my youth and found a Tempe plastic surgeon’s website. It has information about many facial fillers, including Botox. It says, “Botox is an effective way for softening crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles. The results are a more pleasing relaxed appearance.”

The use of compression hosiery for up to two weeks after treatment is recommended, which may be used for at least eight hours a day. Sclerotherapy can be done in other parts of the body including the face. The area in the face will be red and puffy, but the resolution tends to be very much faster. Many plastic surgeons offer the option of Laser/IPL for the delicate areas of the face. Two days before the treatment, as with any injectables, we suggest that alcohol be avoided, as well as other medications or supplements that thin blood.

The GentleLASE laser is the only system available with a Dynamic Cooling Device that sprays cryogen onto the skin. This cools the upper skin layers and protects even the most delicate skin while dramatically reducing discomfort. Compared to other hair removal lasers on the market, our GentleLASE system is virtually painless.

For many people the removing of hair through shaving can be incredibly inconvenient and in some cases (such as being overweight or aged) very difficult. Because of this problem, men and women alike look for alternative ways to get rid of their unwanted hair to avoid embarrassment from razor burn or bumps. They turn to waxing, various hair removal sprays, and other temporary solutions to their problem. However, there is an alternative to any temporary hair removal. There is only one way to permanently remove unwanted facial or body hair and that is laser hair removal.

Human hands are highly visible. We extend our hands as a gesture of friendliness in order to form new friendships and acquaintances. Others can tell a lot by looking at our hands. For instance, the age of the individual can be estimated when looking at someone’s hand and while many people have cosmetic surgery to make their face look younger, their hands reveal their true age. With the hands looking years older than the facial features an obvious tell-tale sign that someone has had facial rejuvenation will be noticed by the average individual. For those who are concerned about the appearance of their hands, there are steps that can help prevent and more importantly reverse the signs of aging.

There are various methods to reduce the nipple size including removal of just the top of the nipple with tiny sutures to close the area. This helps decrease projection. Also nipple reduction can be done by removing tissue from the neck of the nipple, pushing the nipple back into the breast tissue and suturing the skin closed. The ability to breast feed can usually be preserved and sensation is almost always normal.
Recovery
Normal activity can resumed usually after 24 hours. Showers are permitted the next day. Dissolvable sutures need no removal but you will need to see the plastic surgeon for a post op visit after 7-10 days. Non -dissolvable sutures will need to be removed within 4-7 days. Swelling and pain are minimal.

Micro-pigmentation or permanent make-up can make you look your best with much less time spent on applying make-up. It can help resolve problem eyebrows with too little or uneven hair growth and it can dramatically or subtly accentuate your eye liner. As a medical procedure, it is used to help reduce facial or body scars.

A neck lift is usually part of a facelift but may be performed alone. The repair of the playsma muscles helps redefine the neck. Neck-lift procedures reposition and tighten skin that, through aging, has begun to sag.
Neck-lift procedures cannot eliminate all signs of aging. Although this procedure provides a more youthful appearance, the results usually decrease with time. Both genetic and environmental influences cause the face to show further signs of aging.

Liposuction (lipoplasty) is particularly well-suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localized fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them.

The endoscope is a small fiberoptic camera (5mm wide) that is inserted into a 1 inch incision in the temporal scalp area. This allows me to visualize the structures inside of the face without making a large incision. The operation is done watching the television monitor, rather than directly at the wound. There are also smaller (8mm) incisions placed on the forehead hair bearing scalp area for introduction of instruments. If you have decided to have an Endoscopic Vertical Facelift consult a board certified plastic surgeon.

Ear surgery or otoplasty is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, so the operation is done on children between ages of four and fourteen. Ear surgery is also possible in adults with fewer risks. You have to be clear about what and how you want your ear to be when you talk to the doctor.
I had no idea they could perform otoplasty at such a young age. I always thought plastic surgery was for adults.

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is surgery to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen. Abdominal muscles that have been weakened or separated can also be corrected with a tummy tuck. The most common causes of loose or sagging skin on the stomach are heredity, multiple pregnancies, prior surgery and significant fluctuations in weight. This procedure is common among patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery and have excess abdominal skin.
Did you know that an abdominoplasty can be combined with liposuction to help achieve optimal body contouring results?

Eyelid surgery is a procedure to correct drooping of the upper eyelids and puffy bags and wrinkles around the lower eyelids. With age, the muscles around the eyes weaken and the skin becomes increasingly loose and puffy, which can cause patients to look older and more tired than they actually feel. Eyelid surgery helps restore a youthful appearance by removing or redraping excess fat, muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelids. Either alone or combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, eyelid surgery can drastically reduce the signs of aging.

The main goals of a Tummy Tuck are to remove the excess, loose skin and fat of the lower abdomen and to tighten the abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty offers the best chance to have as flat an abdomen and as narrow a waist as possible. The procedure unlocks the potential that is there. In Los Angeles, Tummy Tucks can make all the difference in feeling and looking like your old self. A Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon has extensive experience in this surgery having performed well over 1500 Tummy Tucks.

There are many filler substances on the market today including Collagen. The differences among them involve the types of materials and how long they remain effective. The one common denominator is that none of the material is permanent. Typically, the effects from these substances last from three to four months. There is one product on the market today, Radiance, which the manufacturer claims lasts three to five years. This product is most effective for softening the nasolabial folds (the groove which stretches from the nose downward to the corner of the mouth). All the filler substances are injected with a fine needle in the office setting. Most patients report mild but temporary discomfort. Only trust a board certified plastic surgeon.
I had no idea there were so many different kinds of filler materials. Which do you think is the best?

Most patients, young and old alike, are thrilled with the results of ear surgery. But keep in mind, the goal is improvement, not perfection. Don’t expect both ears to match perfectly-perfect symmetry is both unlikely and unnatural in ears. If you’ve discussed the procedure and your expectations with the plastic surgeon before the operation, chances are, you’ll be quite pleased with the result.
When considering corrective ear surgery make sure to consult a board certified plastic surgeon.

There are essentially two major problems that affect the eyelids. One is the build up of excess fat behind the eyelids, especially in the lower eyelids. This pushes outward on the eyelid causing a bulge or “bag” to develop. Light, which most often comes from above us, will shine on the bulge and cause a shadow to form under the lid. This gives the appearance of dark circles and the tired-look.
The second major problem affecting eyelids is wrinkling of the skin. This is due to a loss of the skin’s natural elastic properties, which can be as a result of the aging process, sun damage and cigarette smoking. The excess skin can become redundant and hang down, especially on the upper lids, adding to that tired or aged appearance. Excessive drooping of the upper eyelids can even obstruct vision.
Surgical treatment, called a Blepharoplasty, is directed at each of these problems. A Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon has been a pioneer in developing a remarkable method of Blepharoplasty, which employs the use of the laser. This ultra skilled approach represents a blend of the highest level of safety with the best aesthetic results.

A browlift is a procedure that renews a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance above the eyes. Often the drooping brows, horizontal lines, and furrows can cause a person to appear angry, sad, and tired. People develop the creases and frown lines due to aging, stress, and/or muscle activity. In a browlift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines.
An Arizona Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can best help you get the browlift you desire.

Breast Augmentation uses breast implants which are either filled with a saline solution or silicone gel. Saline implants are most commonly used as the use of silicone implants has been restricted. This is because the rupture of a silicone implant may release the silicone material into the body’s tissues which is a significant health concern. If saline implants rupture, the saline solution is harmlessly reabsorbed into the body and the implant can be replaced.
A Long Beach Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can help you to achieve your goals.
I know breast augmentation is a very common performed plastic surgery procedure, but I didn’t know there were different types of implants. Did anyone else not know?

Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat–usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won’t remove crow’s feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.
If you’re interested in creating a whole new you, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can help you design a complete makeover.
Has anyone ever had a blepharoplasty procedure performed on them?

Ear surgery is performed to set ears back that either stand out substantially from the side of the head, or to reduce the size of oversized ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of six and fourteen, usually when they get tired of being teased. Often times this self consciousness forces one to wear their hair long and down just to cover up their prominent ears. The results of this procedure, whether performed in children or adults, are rewarding and impressive. Ear surgery is also possible in adults with fewer risks. You have to be clear about what and how you want your ear to be when you talk to the doctor.
* When a qualified and experienced surgeon performs the ear surgery, the complications and risks involved are usually minor.
* Patients may develop a blood clot on the ear. It can dissolve naturally or drawn out with a needle.
* Patient may develop an infection in the cartilage, which can cause sear tissue to form.

You may be a candidate for Botox® if you have lines or deep grooves along your forehead between your eyebrows, or around the corners of your eyes (crow’s feet) that bother you. Botox injections are a temporary solution for reducing the appearance of lines and can last anywhere from 3-5 months. Dr. Kearney performs Botox injections in the office and there is no anesthetic required and no downtime. You may return to normal activities immediately following your appointment. It usually takes 3-4 days to see the effects of Botox. Botox can also be used to treat overactive sweat glands in the armpits as well as help in the treatment of Migraine headaches. On an occasional patient, Botox is used in the mouth area to decease the appearance of vertical lip lines.

If You’re Considering Scar Revision…
Scars, whether they’re caused by accidents or by surgery, are unpredictable. The way a scar develops depends as much on how your body heals as it does on the original injury or on the surgeon’s skills.
Many variables can affect the severity of scarring, including the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply to the area, the thickness and color of your skin, and the direction of the scar. How much the appearance of a scar bothers you is, of course, a personal matter.
While no scar can be removed completely, plastic surgeons can often improve the appearance of a scar, making it less obvious through the injection or application of certain steroid medications or through surgical procedures known as scar revisions.
If you’re considering scar revision, this will give you a basic understanding of the most common types of scars, the procedures used to treat them, and the results you can expect. It can’t answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please be sure to ask your doctor if there is anything about the procedure you don’t understand.
After Scar Revision
With any kind or scar revision, it’s very important to follow your surgeon’s instructions after surgery to make sure the wound heals properly. Although you may be up and about very quickly, your surgeon will advise you on gradually resuming your normal activities.
As you heal, keep in mind that no scar can be removed completely; the degree of improvement depends on the size and direction of your scar, the nature and quality of your skin, and how well you care for the wound after the operation. If your scar looks worse at first, don’t panic-the final results of your surgery may not be apparent for a year or more.
For Scar Revision in Los Angeles please contact Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jay Granzow.

Botox treatments are becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason. In many cases, Botox is a very effective method for reducing wrinkles. Botox can be used to smooth wrinkles in the neck and face to create a more youthful appearance. It is especially useful in the eye area. Removing wrinkles from between the eyes can dramatically change a person’s look from one of permanent anger or sadness to one of contentment and restedness. It is also frequently used on the thin wrinkles that surround the eyes (often called “crows feet”) and the mouth, but can also be used in other areas, such as along the chin and jaw.
The solution used in these treatments is made of botulinum A toxin, a purified protein made from botulism bacteria. This solution temporarily paralyzes nerves of the facial muscles so that they cannot contract and cause wrinkles in the area being treated. Botox may also be helpful in treating migraine headaches, and can be used to decrease excess sweating of the palms and underarms.

The beauty benefits of a shower are usually what you bring to it: shampoo and conditioner, face wash, body scrub, etc. You can’t really rely on your shower head to do anything cosmetically magical…or can you?
New Zealand’s Methven has created the Satinjet Maia. Created under Karyn Grossman MD’s guidance, the Maia uses filtering and meticulous massaging to allow the water touching your skin to improve your skin. It eliminates chlorine with a special vitamin C cartridge, preventing the weakening of skin’s protectively barrier and the dehydration of hair—especially chemically and color-treated hair. By twisting the head, the jets create a uniquely gentle and circulation-stimulating stream of water appropriate for face and body, respectively.
Methven, New Zealand’s oldest and largest designer and manufacturer of shower heads, faucets and hot water heater valves, marks its debut into the US market with the lunch of Satinjet Maia - a multi-functional shower head that delivers the healthy benefits of a spa experience directly to the privacy of one’s own bathroom. Founded in 1886, Methven is now a publicly-traded company dedicated to transforming a simple shower into the ultimate at-home spa experience. Methven is renowned for its breakthrough design and product development, distinctive aesthetics and environmental-mindedness.
One of our favorite features—the facial massage position prompts only the outer jets to flow, creating a “breathing zone” to let you enjoy a longer face-washing session.
For more information about the Methven SatinJet Maia Beauty Shower, contact Santa Monica Dermatoligist Dr Karyn Grossman MD today.
