The Two Most Well Known Lip Augmentation Products

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

My girlfriend has been talking about getting a lip augmentation for a while now and I knew nothing about it before I did a little research. I found a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon’s website with some useful information. It says, “The two most well known products are Restylane and Juvaderm. Since this is a natural occurring substance the body is very likely to accept this substance. Experience has shown that there are very few allergic reactions to the Hylaforms. Allergic reactions to the skin are so rare, a skin test is not typically required. The Hylaforms come as a gel, which is injected, into the deep dermal layer of the skin.”

Lip augmentation can be accomplished either surgically or with the injection of temporary (dermal) fillers. One of the most sexy and youthful features of the face are the lips. Lushes, plump, and full lips are signs of youth, health, and fertility. As we age our lips lose their fullness and volume. The upper lip sags and becomes thinner. Meanwhile, fine wrinkles develop around lips which are called “lipstick lines” or “smoker’s lines”.
Lip augmentation consists of a variety of procedures designed to give a person a more defined and fuller lips. Besides enlarging the lips, lip fillers or implants are also used to balance the upper and lower lips.

One technique is known as Fat Transfer. The “fat” is taken from your abdomen or outer thigh and reinjected into your lip area. The results are very good and last from several months to over a year because the fat is gradually absorbed back into the body. You may need two or three treatments to obtain the results you desire.

Patients of all ages may desire improvement in the fullness or bulk of the vermilion (the red part of the lip). Several techniques are available to reproduce fullness of the lips. These include augmentation (Alloderm and Softform/UltraSoft) and fat injections. Each patient must be evaluated on an individual bases to determine which technique will work best for their desired results.

Lip Augmentation is a procedure most people wouldn’t think of, but to some people it is very important. Has anyone had experience with a lip augmentation they would like to share?

Non-surgical lip enhancements are convenient because normal activities can be resumed immediately. More permanent lip enhancement procedures include fat augmentation and dermal grafts. These are minor surgical procedures, however, several days may be necessary for swelling to subside.
