It is important to have realistic goals and expectations regarding the outcome of the surgery. It is also important to consider why you want to have nose surgery. Rhinoplasty is performed by making small incisions on the inside of the nose. There are no external incisions. The skin is lifted off of the cartilage and bone and the nose is then sculpted to the appropriate shape. The skin is then placed back in position and dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions inside the nose.

The goal of rhinoplasty is to reshape and sculpt a new nose that fits harmoniously with the face and fits into the facial balance for each individual patient. Every nose job is different. There is no one perfect nose.

The goal of a facelift is to reshape and sculpt a new jaw and neck line and lift the jowls for a very natural look. The goal for a mini-lift is to simply remove the jowls by lifting them. The goal for a neck lift is to sculpt only the neck fat without removal of any skin or jowls. The neck lift is not performed if there are jowls present that need to be addressed. The S-Lift is a mini-lift.

For the upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made along the natural fold of the eyelid, extending from corner to corner, and excess fat and skin is removed. For the lower lids, the incision may be made right below the lower lash line and excess skin, fat and muscle removed. The underlying muscles may also be tightened by your plastic surgeon.

Otoplasty (Cosmetic Ear Surgery) is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of protruding ears or to reduce the size of large ears. It can also help correct ear deformities such as “lop ear,” “cupped ear,” or “shell ear.” Otoplasty can be performed on children and adults, however children need to wait until the ears are almost fully grown. This usually occurs by the age of 4 or 5.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is done to improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids. The primary goal of upper eyelid surgery is to remove the excess skin and fat, whereas the goal of lower eyelid surgery is to remove mostly excess fat. The fat in the lower eyelids is a genetic trait and is referred to by many as puffiness. Typically, patients will say that they look older than they feel when they look in the mirror.

This surgery takes approximately one hour to perform. The technique used is typically an incision approximately 1 1/2 inches long in the crease behind the ear where the cartilage is exposed. The fold is re-created, if needed, and the cartilage is secured to the back of the head. Precise measurements are taken so both ears protrude from the side of the head approximately 12-15 mm after the otoplasty surgery. Both permanent and dissolvable sutures are used to help maintain the new shape of the ear. The dissolvable sutures fall out about a week after surgery.

The average age of a patient having a facelift ranges between forty and sixty-five, but occasionally you will see patients well into their seventies.
Typically, facelift surgeries will last about three hours with an additional three hours allowed for recovery.

I find it interesting that people over 70 would have a facelift performed on them. How do you feel about that?

Gynecomastia means enlargement of the male breast. The definition has nothing to do with what causes the enlargement or what tissue it is composed of.
